INDIANAPOLIS - With a time of 1:44.37, Columbia's David Jakl capped the final of the 2013 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships with a 19th place finish in the 200 butterfly. The Monterey Park, Calif. native is the first to represent Columbia in the butterfly events at the NCAA Championships since Gered Doherty in 2000.

On Friday, March 29,  Jakl competed in his first event at the NCAA Championships hitting the pool in the 100 butterfly after electing not to comepete in the 200 freestyle. In the 42 swimmer field, Jalk posted a third career-best time of 47.55 to place 35th overall.

The sophomore finishes the season with the school record in the 200 fly. He clocked in at a program record  time of 1:44.14 at the 2013 Ivy League Championships to claim a runner-up finals finish earlier this month. Jakl earned second team All-Ivy League honors in both the 100 fly and 200 fly with second place finishes.
