NEW YORK – The Columbia men’s golf team will begin its spring 2013 campaign on Sunday, March 24 when it travels to Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington.

The Seahawks will host the event at the Country Club of Landfall on the Nicklaus Golf Course (Pines-Ocean). The course will play at par-72 and 6,877 yards.

In its fourth year, the Seahawk Invitational will host 12 teams at Landfall. This year’s field will include: UNCW, Maryland, Campbell, Old Dominion, VCU, Columbia, Davidson, No. 22 Kent State, Coastal Carolina, Ohio State, East Carolina and Delaware. Previous winners have included East Carolina (2012), UNCW (2011) and Augusta State (2010).

The Lions competed five times in the fall, capping the season with a ninth-place showing at the Big 5 Invitational in October.

Jordan Lee posted the Lions lowest scoring average in the fall. The junior completed five rounds of competition at The McLaughlin and McDonald Cups, recording an average round score of 73. First-year Harrison Shih competed in four tournaments in the fall, averaging an 18-hole score of 74.1. At the McLaughlin, Shih scored a 65 in the final round of the tournament equaling the low round of the tournament and just one stroke shy of the Columbia single round record. Shih’s best finish was a third-place showing at the John Dallio Memorial in Chicago, Ill.

Andrew Kim, Michael, Yiu, Ford Fischer and Brandon Jowers all competed well in the fall, averaging between 77 and 79 scores.

The Seahawk Invitational is the first of four spring tournaments for Columbia prior to the Ivy League Championships in Owings Mill, Md. on April 26-28.
