PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Kacie Johnson posted her fifth hat trick of the season on Wednesday, March 27 as the Columbia women’s lacrosse team faced Princeton on the road. The Lions drop to 1-8 overall on the season and 0-4 in the Ivy League after the Tigers scored nine goals in both periods to hand Columbia an 18-7 defeat.

On their home field, Princeton put together an early run to start the game scoring three consecutive goals for a 3-0 lead in the opening ten minutes of play. Katie Angulo put Columbia on the board at 17:11 and Johnson shot for her first score of the game at 14:22 to trim the early deficit to 3-2.

After another Princeton score around the 10:30 mark, Johnson kept the Lions within one score with a goal at 9:26 off the Sarah Greenberg assist. The Tigers offense clicked into high-gear with seven minutes remaining in the five half to score five unanswered goals. Princeton’s Erin McMunn scored three first half goals and Columbia trailed 9-4 at the break.

Senior Kelly Buechel showed some Columbia fight in the second half scoring back-to-back goals in the opening three minutes. With a 9-5 score, Princeton would score two goals before Ashley Rinere stopped another Tiger run with a score at 12:13.

The Princeton offense went on to close the second half with another big attack outscoring Columbia 7-1 to win the game. Princeton’s McMunn tallied a game high nine points, including six goals and three assists to lead the 18-7 Columbia defeat.

Up next, the Lions host Fresno State for the first time in program history at Robert K. Kraft Field on Sunday, March 31 at 7 p.m.
