NEW YORK – The No. 62 Columbia women’s tennis team is set to open up the Ivy League portion of its schedule this Saturday, March 30 when they visit No. 64 Cornell. First serve at Reis Tennis Center is slated for 12 p.m.

Columbia has improved to 7-4 on the year following a five-match win streak from February 23 – March 18. The Lions began their Spring Break trip to Texas with a 4-2 decision over Texas-Arlington, but concluded it with a close 4-3 loss to No. 49 Southern Methodist. Saturday’s match against the Big Red begins a seven-match Ivy League slate that will determine the conference champion.

The Lions have been anchored in doubles action by junior Bianca Sanon and first-year Kanika Vaidya who have played to a perfect 5-0 record with wins over two ranked doubles teams, garnering them the No. 38 national ranking. Senior Nicole Bartnik will be the lone ranked singles player in Ithaca this weekend. The Bradenton, Fla. native is slotted at No. 69 in the latest ITA singles poll with an overall 11-10 record. Vaidya paces the Lions in singles action with an overall record of 23-4 and a 7-1 dual mark. Crystal Leung remains undefeated in singles action at 9-0.

Cornell moved into the national rankings for the first time this season at No. 64 with an 11-0 record, the best in the nation. The Big Red downed a trio opponents on its Spring Break trip to South Carolina. Cornell won matches at Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston and then defeated NJIT in a neutral site match.

Dena Tanenbaum (11-0) and Lauren Frazier (10-0) each head into Saturday’s contest with undefeated records in dual competition. Cornell’s top singles player is Sarah O’Neil who has played her way to a 7-1 record. O’Neil and Frazier have teamed up to post a 6-1 mark as the top doubles competition.

Columbia won both of last season’s meetings against Cornell. The Lions knocked off the Big Red at the 2013 ECAC Indoor Championships, 5-2, and they took the Ivy League opener by the same score at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
