The Columbia softball team returns to the road this weekend to take on Brown and Yale for a pair of doubleheaders as they continue Ivy League play. The Lions twinbill against the Bears will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5 and the first pitch of game one against the Bulldogs is slated for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

SCOUTING BROWN
The Bears have dropped five in a row heading into an Apr. 4 contest at Bryant. Brown opened Ivy League play on the road at Princeton and Brown where they went winless. Stephanie Thompson leads the conference with a .457 batting average. As a team, the Bears are hitting .243 and have a team ERA of 5.28. The two teams did not face each other last season as the twinbill was cancelled due to rain.

SCOUTING YALE
After playing a tough tournament schedule, the Bulldogs opened up Ivy League play with a 3-1 weekend, sweeping Cornell and splitting with Princeton. Yale is led by Sarah Onorato, who is batting .444 with nine dingers and 17 RBI. In the circle, Chelsey Dunham has posted three wins and 33 strikeouts. The Bulldogs are hitting .262 collectively and their pitching staff has a 4.62 ERA.

COLUMBIA’S STATUS
The Lions are coming off a split with FDU on Apr. 2, winning game one, 5-4, on a walkoff single by Emily Caruthers. Columbia overcame a three-run deficit in the win. In game two, the Lions racked up 11 hits, but fell 10-7.

MILESTONE ACHIEVED
With Columbia’s 5-4 win in game one against FDU on Apr. 2, head coach Kayla Noonan earned her 200th career victory. Noonan is in her 11th season at the helm of the Lions and is already the program’s leader in wins.

DRAMA QUEEN
Junior Emily Caruthers walk-off bloop single in the seventh inning lifted the Lions to a 5-4 win over FDU on Apr. 2. The Columbia leadoff hitter is having a stellar season, batting .313 with and leads the Ivy League with 10 stolen bases

MY SHIMODA
Sophomore Kayla Shimoda homered in back-to-back games over the weekend, serving a grand slam in the nightcap of Columbia’s series with Dartmouth on March 29 and hitting an inside the park home run in the first game against Harvard on March 30. The standout utility player currently leads the team, and is one of the Ivy League leaders, with seven doubles.
