NEW YORK – As the calendar moves closer to the Ivy League Championship, the Columbia men’s golf team will get a preview of nearly the entire Ancient Eight this Saturday, April 6, when it travels to New Haven, Conn. to compete in the Yale Spring Opener.

Seven of the eight Ivy League members, excluding Harvard, will comprise the 12-team field that will compete at the Yale Golf Course this Saturday. Designed by Charles Blair Macdonald, the co-founder of the USGA, The Course at Yale has received a number of accolades over the year, including being ranked as the top collegiate course and as Golf Magazine’s 71st most difficult in the nation.

Columbia began spring competition at the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. with an 11th-place showing on March 25. First-year Harrison Shih led the way for the Lions, finishing tied for 28th after posting a team-low single round score of 73 over the first 18 holes. Senior Stephen LaRouere finished the event tied for 43rd, while junior Andrew Kim rounded out Columbia’s top 50 finishers, coming in tied for 48th.

The Yale Spring Opener is the first of two consecutive Ivy League invitationals the Lions will participate in. The weekend of April 13-14 features a trip to Springdale Golf Club to compete in the Princeton Invitational. After a trip to Raleigh, N.C. for the N.C. State Invitational, the season will culminate with the Ivy League Championships in Owings Mills, Md. from April 26-28.
