DIRECTIONS TO LAKE QUINSIGAMOND | LIVE VIDEO | EARC SPRINTS CENTRAL | MORNING HEAT SCHEDULE | AFTERNOON FINALS SCHEDULE
NEW YORK – The Columbia lightweights take a No. 3 seed into the Eastern Sprints Regatta with hopes of returning to the Grand Final and earning a spot at the IRA National Championships. Like the heavyweight competition, the lightweight regattas will be held at Lake Quinasigamond in Worcester, Mass.
Last year at the annual event, Columbia secured the final qualifying spot at IRA’s after earning bronze in the Grand Final.
And with four varsity eight wins in six races this spring, the Lions seem poised to repeat their successes from the last two seasons. Columbia is currently ranked No. 5 in the USRowing Collegiate Poll with their only defeats coming to Yale (No. 2) and Princeton (No. 4) this season.
However, those loses were extremely competitive races which saw the Lions lead for stretches in both. In the Dodge Cup regatta on Apr. 13, the Lions led through 700 meters before the Bulldogs made a push and won by six seconds. Columbia and the Tigers had an even closer race on May 4, with Princeton edging out a two-second triumph on the strength of a strong sprint in the final 250 meters.
