PORTLAND, Ore. – Columbia men’s basketball rising sophomore Grant Mullins has been named to the Canadian National Developmental Team for its exhibition series in China from June 6-20.

Mullins participated in a rigorous training camp from May 31-June 4 at the Nike World Headquarters under the direction of Canadian Senior National Team head coach Jay Triano.

Team Canada will play nine games in China before making their final selections for the FISU Summer Universiade (also known as the World University Games) roster, for which Mullins is under consideration.

The FISU Games feature the best student-athletes from across the world in one of the largest international sporting events outside of the Olympics. Kazan, Russia will serve as the host of the competition from July 6-17.

The 6-3 Burlington, Ontario native was second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.7 points per game as a first-year. Mullins scored in double-figures for the Lions 10 times, including a 20-point outburst at American on Dec. 9 and was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on two occasions (Nov. 27, Dec. 10).

“As a basketball player, it is an honor to represent your country and I am very excited for the opportunity to go to China,” Mullins said. “The training camp in Portland was awesome because I was able to play against some of the best players in Canada and learn under great coaches like Jay Triano. I am really looking forward to playing in China and hope to participate at the FISU Games next month as well.”
