LONDON & NEW YORK– Columbia field hockey assistant coach Caroline Nichols has rejoined the United States National Team in London as they compete at the IHF World League Semi-Final in London from June 22-30.

Nichols and Team USA will look to secure a top-four finish at the tournament to qualify for the eight-team World League Finals in Argentina in December and solidify a spot in the 2014 World Cup.

"I am honored to be back in the red, white and blue representing USA Field Hockey here at the World League 3 Tournament,” said Nichols. “London has done an amazing job setting up this event, and it is shaping up to be a great venue for some world class hockey. It will be exciting getting back out on the field with my teammates and even more special being back in London. I am looking forward to a very competitive tournament and hopeful USA qualification for the World Cup next year in Holland."

The U.S. has been put into Pool A with the likes of Argentina, China and Italy. The quarterfinals will take place on June 27, the semifinals on June 29 and the finals will be on June 30.

All of the games will be streamed live on the FIH YouTube Channel.

The U.S. qualified for the World League Semi-Final after a successful Round 2 campaign in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in early March. Team USA finished with a near-perfect record, defeating Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Trinidad and Tobago and drawing Scotland in regulation.

Additionally, the Lions’ head coach Marybeth Freeman has recently returned from a stint on the sideline as a manager/assistant coach in Brampton, Ontario where she worked with Team Alberta at the Senior Women’s Championships.

"It was a great experience being up in Canada and working with the Alberta team for the Senior National Championships in Brampton,” Freeman said. “There was some excellent hockey played over the week and I was excited to be asked to work with the squad. I think it's always important to be a student of the game and I'm thankful to have experienced some international insight to different tactics and philosophies."
