NEW YORK - 18 student-athletes will join the Columbia women's cross country and track & field team for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The class of 2017 is filled with an array of athletes from all over the country, including 12 different states.

Joining the Lions will be:

Brenna Barker

High School: Dana Hills High School
Hometown: Juan Capistrano, Calif.
PR: 38’ 10.5 – Triple Jump, 18’ 2” – Long Jump, 5’ 7 ¾” – High Jump

Barker was named captain her junior and senior year at Dana Hills, leading her team to league championships in both 2012 and 2013.  Barker was named South Coast League Female Athlete of the Year during her senior year.  Also, she earned Most Valuable Athlete at Dana Hills during her junior and senior year and was named Field Athlete of the Meet Orange County Championships in 2012.

 

Sarah Burke

High School: Bishop Guertin High School
Hometown: Tyngsboro, Mass.
PR: 57.4 – 400m, 1:35.17 – 600m, 2:11 – 800m, 2:57.0- 1,000m

A two-time New Hampshire state champion in the 600m indoor, Burke arrives to Columbia with a number of championship wins in her career. The New Hampshire Division I record holder in the 600m is also a state 400m and 800m champion. Burke is a three time all-state honoree in track and earned a New Balance Nationals All-American nod as a member of the 4x800m team in her sophomore season. Not only was Burke a key member of the four-time state champion indoor Bishop Guertin track teams, she also help lead the outdoor track team to a division championship in 2011 and cross country championship in 2012.

 

Gardenia Centanaro

High School: East Roosevelt High School
Hometown: Los Angeles, Calif.
PR: 13’1” – Pole Vault

Centanaro dominated the field during her career at East Roosevelt High School.  She was named team MVP all four years and was named all-county four times.  The three-time league champion was named School District Senior Athlete of the Year.  Her senior year, she won the Mount Sac Relays Pole Vault Championship and was the California state runner up in the event as well.

 

Christina Firl

High School: Grosse Pointe South High School
Hometown: Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.
PR: 5:06.78 – 1600m, 10:56.2 – 3200m, 17:39.0- 5000m

A four-time letterwinner in both cross country and track, Firl was a consistent top distance performer.  In cross country, Firl earned All-State honors as a sophomore and was named All-County three times.  On the track, Firl continued her strong career being named All-State three times, along with being named All-Region and All-Section four-times.  Firl holds the Macomb County Red Division record in the 3200m and the 4 x 800m relay. 

 

Natiaha Hinnerichs

High School: Holton-Arms School
Hometown: Rockville, Md.
PR: 5’ 8” – High Jump

Hinnerichs is a four-year letter winner in both soccer and track and was named captain of the track team in her junior and senior year for Holton-Arms.  She is a three-time champion in the ISL High Jumpa and is a three-time Draper’s High Jump Champion as well.  At the 2012 USATF Junior Olympic Regionals, Hinnerichs finished second in the high jump.

 

Erica Johnson

High School: St. Mary Academy Bay View
Hometown: Riverside, R.I.
PR: 56.3 – 400m, 1:33.3 – 600m, 209.6 – 800m

Johnson is a seven-time Rhode Island State Champ, including a state record four-time champ in the indoor 600m. She also boasts an eighth place finish at the outdoor nationals in the 800m to her resume.

 

Pegah Khosravi-Kamrani

High School: East Chapel Hill High School
Hometown: Chapel Hill, N.C.
PR: 5:02.0 – 1600m, 10:45.0 – 3200m, 17:47 – 5000m

A four-time Most Valuable Player at East Chapel Hill, Karami ran to a first-place victory her senior season at the 4A State Championships in the 3200m. She was also named NC Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior. As a junior, she finished runner-up at the NC state cross country championships.  Kamrani earned all-conference and all-county three times to go along with six conference and meet championships throughout her career.

 

Joan Kuheim

High School: Rifle High School
Hometown: Rifle, Colo.
PR: 43’ 3” – Shot Put, 139’ 9” - Discus

A nine-time letterwinner at Rifle High School, Kuheim captained both the basketball and track teams her senior year.  She was the 4A Western Slope Female MVP of the Year in 2013, named all-state first team in shot put three times and a two time first team All-State in the discus.  The 2013 Colorado state shot put runner-up was also was named to the All-Conference team three times in both shot put and discus in her career.

 

Charlotte Pierce

High School: Thornton Academy
Hometown: Alfred, Maine
PR: 2:19.0 -800m, 5:01.0 – 1Mile, 10:53.0 – 3200m, 18:56.0 – 5K

 Pierce is a 12-time letterwinner and led both cross country and track her junior and senior year at Thornton Academy.  During her final season she crossed the finish line as the state champion in the indoor mile.  Pierce went on to become the Journal Tribune Winter Athlete of the Year.

 

Henna Rustami

High School: Syosset High School
Hometown: Syosset, N.Y.
PR: 2:16.0 – 800m, 4:44.0 – 1500m, 5:06.0- 1600m, 10:14.0 -3000m

An 11-time varsity letterwinner, Rustami was a stellar runner for Syosset High School. Throughout her career, she won the county championship in the 3000m three times.  Rustami was named all-state in the 4 x 800m relay.  She earned MVP honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track during her senior year. 

 

Sydney Segal

High School: Beverly Hills High School
Hometwon: Beverly Hills, Calif.
PR: 2:17.0 – 800m, 4:51.0 – 1600m, 10:25.0 – 3200m, 17:18 – 5k

Segal arrives to Columbia as one of the top distance runners in the country. In cross country, the California native is a two-time Most Valuable Player, a California D3 State Champion and a CIF SS D3 Champions. The four-sport athlete was also a Footlocker Finalist and a Nike Nationalist. Segal also holds two CIF SS Championships on the track and is a three-time Most Valuable Player as well.

 

Samantha Siler

High School: Sycamore High School
Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio
PR: 4:59.0 – 1600m, 10:41.0 – 3200m, 17:56.0 – 5k

Siler earned 12 varsity letters  in her career at Sycamore High School and was a four-time Academic All-Ohio honoree.  She was a four-time All-Conference athlete in track and three-time All-Ohio in both cross country and track.  Siler was the runner-up in the 3200m State Championship in 2013 and was named the Most Valuable Distance Runner all four years at Sycamore.

 

Devon Towell

High School: West Chester East High School
Hometown: West Chester, Pa.
PR: 59.12  - 400m, 2:13.47 – 800m, 5:08.07 – 1600m

A two time PIAA outdoor state medalist was a consistent top performer in both cross country and track.  She was named first-team All-Area her junior and senior year in track, and all-league cross country as a senior.

 

Georgia Tuttle

High School: West Irondequoit High School
Hometown: Rochester, N.Y.
PR: 2:17.0 -800m, 4:34.0 – 1500m, 10:18.0 – 3000m, 17:53.0 – 5K

Tuttle set nine school records during her career at West Irondequoit.  She holds the record for 3 mile, 5k, indoor 1000m, 1500m, 3000m, outdoor 800m, 1500m, 2000m, and 3000m.  She was named West Irondequoit Athlete of the Year and the Mark Vienna Scholar Athlete.  She won five sectional patches during her junior and senior year.

 

Brittney Wade

High School: Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
Hometown: Bethesda, Md.
PR: 26.44 – 200m, 57.10 – 400m, 2:12.26 – 800m

Wade is a 10-time letterwinner at Bethesda-Chevy Chase. She excelled on the track running to a state championship in both the 800m and as a member of the 4 x 800m relay team.  She earned All-Gazette First-Team Honors as both a junior and senior. 

 

Anna Williams

High School: Thomas A. Edison High School
Hometown: Alexandria, Va.
PR: 41’ 1.5” – Triple Jump, 18’ 9.5” – Long Jump

Williams comes to Columbia as one the best triple jump athletes in the country, ranking as high as No. 5 in the nation.  The 2013 Women in Sports Athlete of the Year at Edison High School was a four-year letter winner and named captain both her junior and senior seasons.  She was named a 2013 indoor triple jump All-American finishing first at the 2013 High School Girls Triple Jump Penn Relays. Williams is an eight-time National District Track and Field Champion compiling six VA AAA Track and Field All-State Titles. The 2013 State indoor triple jump champion boasts an impressive resume that also includes a 2013 New Balance National bronze medal in the triple jump.
