NEW YORK – The Columbia squash program has announced its group of incoming student-athletes for the upcoming season. The men’s team will welcome four newcomers and the women’s team will add three new members.

Joining the Lions will be:

MEN’S SQUASH

Hyun Woo Choi
Hometown: McLean, Va.
High School: St. Mark’s School

Choi was a two-year letterwinner in tennis and squash at the St. Mark’s School. He is known as a very hard working and determined player on the court. Choi was awarded the team’s most improved player award for two consecutive seasons in 2012 and 2013.

Joshua Sekhar
Hometown: Toronto, Canada
High School: St. Michael’s College School

Sekhar arrives to Columbia as one of the top Canadian squash players. He was the Scottish Junior Open Champion in 2008, the Canadian Junior Open Champion in 2009, a two-time Canadian National Junior Champion and a Canada Winter Games Gold Medalist. Sekhar is also a former three-time junior Canadian No. 1 ranked player, including the U13, U15 and U17 groups. He also represented his country at the 2010 Pan American Junior Championships and the 2012 World Junior Championships.

Rishi Tandon
Hometown: West Bengal, India
High School: Sishya India

Rishi Tandon will join his brother and Columbia standout Ramit Tandon on the men’s squash team this season. The former U17 National Championship runner-up arrives to New York with a wealth of international squash experience. Tandon is a 2012 Indian Junior Open U19 runner-up finisher and placed third in both the Dutch Junior Open and the Qatar Junior Open. He also represented his country in Poland at the Would Junior Championships this year.

WOMEN’S SQUASH

Maya Patel
Hometown: Phoenixville, Pa.
High School: The Baldwin School

Patel is a four-year letterwinner for a Baldwin School women’s squash team that captured four consecutive Inter-Academic League Championships and three Mid-Atlantic Squash Association League Championships during her tenure. A two-time All Inter-Academic and All-MASA selection, Patel captained the women’s squash team in her senior season. She comes to Columbia with a U19 US Squash national ranking of No. 28.

Colette Sultana
Hometown: Malta, UK
High School: Millfield School

Columbia will add another seasoned squash player to the team this year in Sultana, the Malta National Senior Ladies Champion. She began playing in the European squash circuit at an early age and earned a top-10 ranking in the U13 and U15 divisions. Sultana went on to hold top-20 ranking at the U17 and U19 divisions.
