NEW YORK – Gearing up for her first year at the helm of the Columbia women’s basketball program, first-year head coach Stephanie Glance announced the schedule for the 2013-14 season. The Lions will play a total of 28 regular-season games, with 13 of those coming in the friendly confines of Levien Gymnasium.
The first contest under the new regime will be an away game at LIU Brooklyn on Friday, Nov. 8. Columbia fans will get their first look at the Lions on their home court on Nov. 10, when San Francisco visits for a Sunday afternoon matinee.
The Lions then take to the road for five of their next six games, with the lone home game coming on Friday, Nov. 22 against Cal State Fullerton. Sandwiched around the Fullerton game, are trips to Lafayette (Nov. 15) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Nov. 24).
Thanksgiving break will see the Lions travel cross-country to take on Portland and Portland State on Nov. 29 and Dec. 1, respectively. Upon returning to the East Coast, Columbia will make the short trek to Brooklyn Heights on Wednesday, Dec. 4 to take on St. Francis (N.Y.) before hosting Colgate at Levien on Saturday, Dec. 7. Prior to breaking for finals, the Lions will make one last short road trip to Iona on Monday, Dec. 9.
A trip to Georgia on Saturday, Dec. 21 to face off against Kennesaw State will represent the final out-of-conference road game on the Lions’ schedule. Lehigh (Dec. 28), Bryant (Dec. 30) and Stony Brook (Jan. 5) will all travel to the City of New York to close out the remaining portion of the out-of-conference slate.
Following a 13-day break from competition, Ivy League play begins with a 4:30 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Jan. 18 at home against Cornell. The Lions will return the trip to its Empire State rival a week later on Saturday, Jan. 25.
A four-game homestand caps January and begins February for Columbia, including Yale and Brown on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, respectively, and Penn and Princeton following the next weekend. Columbia will then hit the road for four games, taking on Harvard on Feb. 14, before heading north to challenge Dartmouth on Feb. 15. The next weekend will see the Lions square off against Brown in Providence and then Yale on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The final home contests of the season will occur Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 against the Big Green and Crimson, respectively. Trips to Penn and Princeton a week later will wrap up the regular season.
