PRINCETON, N.J. – After a record-setting weekend, Columbia field hockey’s Katie Ruesterholz was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the conference this afternoon.

Ruesterholz scored four goals in two games for the Lions to bring her season total to nine, breaking the program’s record for the most scores by a first-year. The previous mark was seven, set by Julia Garrison ‘11CC in 2007.

The standout forward opened the scoring in the sixth minute at Cornell on Sept. 28, showing off her hand-eye coordination by tipping in a long shot. Ruesterholz tied the record just under two minutes remaining against the Big Red.

The Basking Ridge, N.J., native had a nearly identical game the next day at Fairfield, scoring in the fourth minute before finding the back of the cage with 2:55 remaining in regulation.

For the season, Ruesterholz leads the Ivy League in points (20) and is tied for the conference lead in goals scored. In the latest national statistics, she ranks seventh in goals per game (1.13) and eighth in points per game (2.50). Ruesterholz’ nine tallies are already the seventh highest overall single-season total in Columbia history.

Columbia returns to action this weekend when they take on No. 11 Princeton on Friday, Oct. 4 on the road. The Lions also welcome UMass-Lowell to the Baker Athletics Complex on Sunday, Oct. 6 for a 1 p.m. contest.
