2013 NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Central | Directions to Van Cortlandt Park

On Friday, Nov. 15, the Columbia men's and women's cross country team will begin its route to the national stage at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships. Held at the local Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, the men's 8k-race will kick-off the meet at 11:45 a.m. and the women's 6k-race will follow at 1 p.m.

The field will include 39 teams across the Northeast region, including five Ivy League opponents, all competing for a bid to the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championships.The top two teams from each of the nine regions (18 teams total) automatically qualify for the NCAA National Championships. The NCAA Division I Track and Field subcommittee also selects 13 at-large teams.

The first four individuals who are not on automatic qualifying teams (teams that finished in the top two at a regional) and who finished in the top 25 will automatically qualify for the NCAA National championship meet. The NCAA Division I Track and Field subcommittee will also select two at-large individuals who finished in the top 25 of their regional meets.

After one of the best performances in program history en route to an Ivy League Championship title, the men’s cross country team have stood atop the Northeast Regional poll for three straight weeks. The Lions have mainted a hold on the number one spot this season and will head into the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships as one of the favorites to win.

On the women’s side, Waverly Neer will look to continue with a stellar year to lead the Lions. The first team All-Ivy League honoree posted her second consecutive individual runner-up performance at the 2013 Ivy League Championships and stands as one of the top runners in the Northeast heading into Friday's race. The Lions hold a No. 7 ranking in the lastest Northeast Regional poll.
