Terre Haute, Ind. – In a journey that was marked by big wins and an Ivy League Championship title, the Columbia men’s cross country team concluded the 2013 season with a top 25 finish at the 2013 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Lions combined for 580 points to finish 25th overall among the country’s best teams in the men’s 10k-race.

With 149 points, No. 3 Colorado earned the team title at LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course. No.1 Northern Arizona took runner-up with 169 points and No. 2 Oklahoma State tallied 230 points for third place.

For the second consecutive season, Columbia returned to the national stage after earning an automatic bid with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet on Nov. 15. This mark came just a few weeks removed from winning its fourth Ivy League Heptagonal Championship.

Nicolas Composto capped a sensational senior campaign today with an All-American finish to lead the Lions. With a time of 30:37.8, Composto crossed the finish line in 30th place.  The first team All-Ivy League honoree remained a stapled leader to the Lion’s success throughout the season with a number of top finishes, including a runner-up individual finish at Heps.

Jacob Sienko completed his career with a 121st-place finish with a time of 31:28.4 and first-year Jack Boyle finished in 171st-place with a time of 31:59.6. Seniors John Gregorek (190th-32:11.0) and Joe Kotran (196th – 32:14.7) also competed in their last meet for the Lions.

In the women’s 6k-race, junior Waverly Neer represented Columbia for her second straight season. The first team All-Ivy League honoree clocked in with a time of 22:16.3 to place 219th overall.
