NEW YORK - The Columbia track & field team competed in its first of three straight meets at the New York Armory on Friday, Jan. 24 in the NYU Team Challenge. Senior Marvellous Iheukwumere continues to shine in the early indoor season with an impressive victory in the women’s 60m dash. After a second-place finish in the prelims at 7.59, Ihuekwumere returned in the final heat to race for a new program record time of 7.46 for the win. The Austin, Texas native broke her previous school record of 7.51 set last season.

Ashley Cunningham posted her first win of the season in the women's 200m, clocking in with a time of 24.98. Cunningham finished just steps ahead of teammate Jaycee Parker who captured second place with a time of 25.26.The Lions grabbed another victory in the women’s one mile run as Aryn Foland crossed the finish line in 4:59.15.The quartet of Tuttle, Wade, Towell and Tanner finished with a winning time of 12:12.38 in the women's distance medley relay for another Columbia win.

The Lions saw a few runner-up finishes from Iris Chijioke in the 60m hurdles (8.66), Brittney Wade in the 500m (1:14.96) and in the 4x400m relay. The foursome of Mariella McCormack, Jaycee Parker, Erica Johnson and Nicole Bauer combined for a time of 3:53.86.

The women’s middle-distance core posted strong showings in the 500m and 800m runs on Friday. Brittney Wade led the charge in the 500m with a runner-up finish at 1:14.96. The Lions had three runners finish in the top eight, including Erica Johnson (1:16.82, 5th) and Mariella McCormack (1:16.91, 6th). In the women’s 800m, Anne Carey grabbed a fourth-place time of 2:15.96, followed by Nicole Bauer (2:16.61, 5th) and Samantha Chance (2:20.29, 6th).

In the field, Columbia shined in the jumping events as Nadia Eke grabbed a victory in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.71m. Gardeni Centanaro took the pole vault clearing 3.74m and Madelyn Magee led the Lions in the high jump clearing 1.65m for a second-place finish.

The men's team also put together some solid performances uptown. In the 500m, the Lions had two runners finish in the top five with Corey Hammond in fourth-place at 1:06.56, edging teammate Sam Miner in fifth-place at 1:06.60. Kevin Boyd finished in third-place in the 400m run at 49.47, slightly ahead of teammates Noah Latrigue(49.68, 5th) and Ronald Busby (49.95, 6th).

The Lions capped the day with a runner-up finish in the men's 4x400m relay. The squad of Corey Hammond, Denzel Woode, Busby and Miner combined for a time of 3:20.06.

Up next, the Lions will be back in action at The Armory on Saturday, Feb. 1 for the annual Columbia Invitational at 5 p.m.
