ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell shot a blistering 57 percent from the floor in the first half to jump out to an early 20-point lead and did not look back, defeating Columbia 76-51 in Newman Arena.

Columbia falls to 4-12, 1-1 Ivy League, while Cornell improves to 9-7, 1-1 Ivy League.

Cornell opened the game on a 25-6 run and did not look back.  The Lions, plagued by foul trouble throughout the game, shot just 26.9 percent from the floor, while Cornell hit 13-of-16 free throws in the first half alone.  In addition to shooting 57 percent from the floor in the first period, Cornell shot 44 percent from the three and 81.3 percent from the free throw line to lead 49-17 at the half.

The Lions turned up the defensive intensity in the second period, holding Cornell to just 36 percent shooting.  The Lions went on two short runs to cut into the deficit midway through the period.  

Ara Talkov came into the game and gave the Lions a lift, when both Amara Mbionwu and Courtney Bradford got into foul trouble. Talkov scored eight points, including two threes to get Columbia going offensively. 

The Big Red battered the boards, holding a 43-25 lead, but also a 13-7 offensive rebound lead. 

In the final five minutes, the Lions chipped into the lead with Bradford, Tori Talkov, Oliver and Carolyn Gallagher scoring unanswered points for the final 76-51 margin.

Bradford led the Lions with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.  Oliver finished with six points and eight rebounds, while Binder, Gallager and Talkov added eight points each.  Taylor Ward led the Lions with four assists and three steals.  

For the game, the Lions were 13-17 from the free throw line, while Cornell was 23-30.  

The Lions return to action next Friday, when they host Yale at 7 p.m. in Levien Gymnasium.
