Ed Argast is in his fourth season as the offensive line coach at Columbia and is in his first season on the current coaching staff alongside Pete Mangurian.

After coming to Columbia in February 2009, Argast mentored three-time first team All-Ivy League standout Jeff Adams to an All-American senior season and All-Ivy League honors in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Fellow offensive lineman Scott Ward gained All-Ivy honorable mention in 2011.

In 2009, as an offense, Columbia finished in the top three in the Ivy League in rushing offense (second), total offense (third) and points per game (third) for the first time since 1994.

"Ed Argast has tremendous experience and the demeanor I was looking for in an offensive line coach," Mangurian said. "Ed is a great football coach, which encompasses being a teacher, mentor, and a student of the game. He is the kind of coach that every staff needs. Attitude of an offense begins up front and I have tremendous confidence in Ed's ability to create the attitude we need."

Argast came to Columbia after serving as the offensive coordinator at Fordham. While at Fordham, in addition to coordinating the offense, Argast coached the offensive line and placekickers.

In 2007, the Argast-led Fordham offense finished second in the Patriot League in scoring offense, averaging 29.0 points per game, after averaging 12.0 points per game in 2006. The Fordham offense had six players earn All-Patriot League honors, including freshman running back Xavier Martin, who earned 2007 Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors.

As the offensive coordinator at Central Connecticut State in 2004 and 2005, Argast helped the Blue Devils set a new school record in scoring with 261 points in 2004 as well as leading the Northeast Conference (NEC) in total offense in 2004 with 361.7 yards/game. During a five-game winning streak that season, Central Connecticut set a school record by scoring 28 points or more in each of the five games.

In total, the Blue Devil offense posted 27 or more points in eight of the ten games in 2004 and produced the NEC's Offensive Player of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. Several other Central Connecticut offensive records fell in 2004, including most touchdown passes in a year.

Prior to his two years at Central Connecticut, Argast was the offensive coordinator at Wagner College in 2003 while also serving as the quarterbacks coach for the Seahawks. Before joining the staff at Wagner, Argast was the head coach at Canisius College for three years (1999-2002).

Argast also spent 12 years on the staff at his alma mater, Colgate University, holding the positions of defensive line coach, recruiting coordinator, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Prior to Colgate, Argast spent six seasons at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. following stops at Princeton and Bates College. He is an active member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

A three-year letterwinner for the Red Raiders, Argast earned a degree in Political Science in 1978 and a Master's in Education from Rutgers in 1985. He was inducted into the Seton Hall Prep Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997. Argast and his wife, Jane, have five children: Deirdre, Daniel, Charles, Patrick and Jack.
