VARSITY C CLUB

Columbia University has a rich history of academic and athletic success. To celebrate our longstanding commitment to excellence, we welcome you to join the Varsity C Club.

WHAT IS THE VARSITY C CLUB?
The Varsity C Club is a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting Columbia Athletics through advice, counsel, and volunteer activity. The Varsity C Club also provides moral and financial support for Columbia Athletics—both for the 31 varsity sports programs and The Fund for Excellence. The Varsity C Club is committed to sustaining a lifelong partnership with Columbia Athletics and enhancing the student-athlete experience, guided by the program’s vision, mission, values and goals.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER OF THE VARSITY C CLUB?
Donors of $150 or more to The Fund for Excellence automatically become members of the Varsity C Club.

WHAT IS THE FUND FOR EXCELLENCE?
The Fund for Excellence provides vital, immediate funding for the most critical needs of Columbia Athletics including: enhancing student-athlete programming, recruiting talented student-athletes and coaches, expanding travel and recruiting budgets, improving competitive facilities and enhancing the operating budgets for all 29 varsity sports programs. 

Varsity C Membership is based on giving to The Fund for Excellence in the fiscal year. The current fiscal year runs from July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2012.

VARSITY C CLUB EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Executive Committee of the Varsity C Club consists of five officers: Past President, President, President-elect, Secretary and Treasurer. The Executive Committee represents the leaders of the Varsity C Club and work directly with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education and/or her designated staff.

VARSITY C CLUB SPORTS PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEES
The Varsity C Club establishes sports program advisory committees for each intercollegiate sports program, which serve to provide advice and counsel to the coaches and student-athletes. These committees, formed of alumni/ae of the sports programs, also address several areas of special interest including recruiting, career counseling and special fundraising efforts and events. Members of the advisory committees serve as ambassadors for Columbia Athletics and help to raise the visibility of the Athletics Program. Each advisory committee has chair(s), who are the primary point of contact for Columbia Athletics. The term limit for chairpersons is four years.

The Varsity C Club establishes four overall standing committees out of the members of its sports program advisory committees. These committees are dedicated to supporting the volunteer needs of Columbia Athletics as a whole and its more than 800 student-athletes.

The four standing committees are:

•    Special Events & Sponsorships
•    Nominating
•    Career Development 

VARSITY C CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors establishes the overall strategic direction for the Varsity C Club, represents Columbia Athletics within the University community and provides advice and counsel to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education. The Board of Directors is composed of the Varsity C Club Executive Committee (Past President, President, President-elect, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary), Sports Program Advisory Committee Chairs and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education and her designated staff. 

The Board of Directors meet quarterly throughout the fiscal year (July 1st – June 30th).
