Women’s Basketball Reveals the Most Challenging Schedule in Program History

Lions slated to host Michigan and Duke at Levien Gymnasium
NEW YORK — Twelve 20-win non-conference opponents, five of whom reached the 2026 NCAA Tournament and two of which advanced to the Elite Eight, were announced as part of the 2026-27 Columbia women's basketball schedule. The non-conference slate was revealed in its entirety exclusively on PIX11's New York Nightcap, which aired late Tuesday night.
The 15-game non-conference slate features two games against ACC opponents, Duke and Stanford, two against the Big Ten, Michigan and Maryland, two against the Pac-12, Oregon State and San Diego State, three against the Atlantic 10, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's and Davidson, as well as one against Seton Hall out of the Big East.
Among the gauntlet are home games against Duke and Michigan, the two Elite Eight teams from a season ago. The Blue Devils were ranked No. 5 in the final AP Women's Basketball Poll, while the Wolverines came in at No. 7. Michigan visits Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium on Thursday, November 12, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. Duke comes back to Morningside Heights nine days later on Saturday, November 21. That game is also expected to begin at 7 p.m.
The rest of the non-conference home schedule includes Old Dominion (Dec. 3), renewing a local rivalry against the Big East's Seton Hall (Dec. 13) and hosting the Pac-12's Oregon State (Dec. 29).

More marquee matchups fill in the remainder of the November and December calendar. After the season opener against Davidson, the Lions will play two games in Nashville, Tennessee, as part of the newly announced scheduling alliance between the Ivy League, American, Atlantic 10 and Missouri Valley Conferences. Those games feature a November 6 matchup against reigning Atlantic 10 Champion Rhode Island and a November 8 contest with host Belmont. The Bruins were a 20-game winner out of the MVC a year ago and the 2025 WBIT Runner-Up.
In between hosting Michigan and Duke, the Lions will make a trip to College Park to take on the Maryland Terrapins. It will be a first all-time matchup between the two programs. Maryland ended last season ranked No. 20 in the AP Poll following a 24-9 campaign that saw them earn a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advance to the Second Round.
The month of November concludes with three games at the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu. Columbia is slated to take on San Diego State, the host Rainbow Wahine and the Stanford Cardinal. All three teams were 20-game winners last season, with SDSU going 27-6, 19-1, to win the Mountain West Regular Season Championship. The Aztecs and Cardinal both reached the WBIT Quarterfinals.
After the long trip back to NYC, the Lions will stay local through December. The month begins with the aforementioned home game against ODU, followed by a visit to Staten Island to face Wagner (Dec. 6) and a ride to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's (Dec. 9). Columbia returns home to host Seton Hall four days later before a highly anticipated mid-major showdown at Fairfield (Dec. 16). The Stags have won three straight MAAC Tournaments – now the Metro Conference – and earned an 11 seed in last year's Big Dance after going 28-5.

The 2027 Ivy League Tournament returns to The Palestra. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 13, followed by the Championship Game on Sunday, March 14.
