Princeton, N.J. - With a busy opening day of action at the 2015 College Squash Association on Friday, Feb. 27, only one Columbia player remains alive in the winners' bracket. Osama Khalifa grabbed back-to-back wins to advance to the quarterfinals of the Pool Trophy (A Division).
Khalifa began the day with an opening round 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence's Ibrahim Khan (11-3, 11-7, 11-3). The first-year followed with another 3-0 defeat of Rick Penders (15-13, 11-1, 11-7), a member of reigning national team champion Trinity.
Up next, Khalifa will return Saturday, Feb. 28 to face Prineton's Samuel Kang in a quarterfinals match set for 1:10p.m.
Rishi Tandon competed in the Pool Trophy (A Division) on Friday. After dropping his a tough 2-3 first match to Bates College's Ahmed Hatata, the sophomore bounced back with a 3-2 triumph in the first round consolation bracket over Trinity's Moustafa Hamada (11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9).
Up next, Tandon will return Saturday, Feb. 28 to face Atticus Kelly of Drexel in the consolation quarterfinals for a 12:20 p.m. match.
On the women's side, Reyna Pacheco fell to Trinity's Sachika Balvani, 3-1, in the second round of the Holleran Cup (B) Division, following a first round bye. Pacheco will continue in the second round consolation on tomorrow with a match against Princeton's Tara Harrington at 9:45 a.m.
