Princeton, N.J. - On Saturday, Feb. 28, the Columbia squash program had three players back in action for day two of the 2015 College Squash Association Individual National Championships It was solid day for the Lions as all three players picked up victories and two players advance to Sunday.
Osama Khalifa picked up a pair of dominant wins in the Pool Trophy (A Divison) winners bracket for a chance to compete for the national crown in the finals. The first-year kicked off the afternoon defeating Princeton's Samuel Kang in the quarterfinals (11-3, 11-3, 11-7). He went on to blank Harvard's David Ryan in the semi-finals (11-7, 11-8, 11-8)
Up next, Khalifa will return to Jadwin Gymnasium for the ultimate championship match on Sunday, March 1 at 11:45 a.m. to face Ahmed Abdel Khalek of Bates College.
Princeton will stream the match via the Ivy League Digital Network.
On the women's side, Reyna Pacheco also picked back-to-back victories in the second round consolation bracket of the Holleran Cup (B Division). Pacheco took down Princeton's Tara Harrington (11-7, 11-8, 13-11) to start the morning, followed by a quarterfinals triumph over Dartmouth's Victoria Dewey (11-3, 11-9, 11-9).
Up next, Pacheco will return on Sunday, March 1 to take on Dartmouth's Lydie McKenzie in a semi-finals match at 9:50 a.m.
Rishi Tandon reached the consolation semi-finals in the Pool Trophy (A Division) after a morning win over Drexel's Atticus Kelly in straight games (11-4, 11-8, 11-8). Tandon went on to fall in the semi-finals match to St. Lawrence's Ahmed Bayoumy (11-6, 6-11, 5-11, 4-11).
