COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Columbia fencing standout Emily Jacobson '08CC was one of six people selected to be inducted in the USA Fencing Hall of Fame in 2016.

Jacobson was a member of the Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame's Class of 2014 this past fall. She was a first team All-American all four seasons at Columbia, including winning the NCAA Championship in the sabre in 2005. For her career, Jacobson posted a record of 131-16 (.891 winning percentage).

In 2004, Jacobson competed at the Athens Olympics, the same year she won both individual and team titles at the Junior World Championships. That year, Jacobson also won silver at the World Team Championships.

“I remember watching Emily when she was just starting in Atlanta and then fencing for Columbia,” head coach Michael Aufrichtig said.  “She was amazing! I am so happy she was recognized by USA Fencing to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.”

Making the selection even more special, Jacobson's sister Sada – a three time Olympic medalist - was selected as a member of this year's class.

Nominated by the Hall of Fame Committee, the ballot included six Olympians vying for four athlete slots and four individuals in contention for two positions in the category for coaches, administrators and those who have given service to the sport.

The six inductees will be recognized during a ceremony in 2016.
