Zimmerman Named MBWA Women's Div. I Player of the Week

NEW YORK — Columbia women’s basketball junior Camille Zimmerman was named Women’s Div. I Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association. The MBWA’s weekly winners were announced on Tuesday.

The designations, for games played Feb. 13-19, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III. The MBWA selection is the second this season for Zimmerman, who previously was named Met Division I Player of the Week on Jan. 31.

Zimmerman averaged 24.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, one steal and one block as part of Columbia's 1-1 week against Harvard and Dartmouth. She posted double-doubles of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in each game. The Tempe, Arizona, native was 19 of 48 (39.6 pct.) from the field and 7 of 8 (87.5 pct.) from the foul line.

Zimmerman continued her Ivy League Player of the Year campaign on Friday against Harvard, registering game-highs of 28 points and 12 rebounds in a narrow 58-55 defeat. She scored six straight as part of an 11-0 third-quarter run and added six more through the game’s final minute. The junior shot 10 of 28 from the field and 7 of 8 from the foul line, accounting for over half of Columbia's 55 total points.

Saturday, Zimmerman posted a game-high 20 points, game-high 10 rebounds and career-high seven assists to lead Columbia in a 69-48 victory over Dartmouth. She helped the Lions race ahead 22-13 with five points and four assists in the first quarter, ending the game 9 of 20 from the field, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. It was Columbia's first 20-point victory in Ivy League play since February of 2011. The Lions also earned a season sweep over an Ivy League opponent for the first time since 2012-13.

Following last weekend's performance, Zimmerman has scored 20 points in eight consecutive outings. She is averaging an Ivy League best 22.3 points and 9.8 rebounds on the season, and also leads the conference with marks of 24.8 points and 10.1 rebounds in Ivy League play. Zimmerman's 514 total points are seven shy of Columbia's Div. I single-season record of 521 held by Hall of Famer Judie Lomax '10BC (2009-10).

Hofstra’s Krystal Luciano was named a co-winner for Div. I Player of the Week alongside Zimmerman.

Zimmerman and the Lions travel to Princeton and Penn this weekend for their final road trip of the Ivy League season. Columbia faces off against Princeton on Friday, followed by Penn on Saturday. Both games tip at 7 p.m.
