PISCATAWAY, N.J.. – The Columbia baseball team will face Rutgers this Wednesday on the road in its final non-conference game of the season. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
- The Lions will take a six-game winning streak to Piscataway when they face Rutgers for its final non-conference game of the season.
- Columbia scored 36 runs in the final two games of a sweep of Princeton last weekend. The Lions scored 21 times in the finale, marking the most for the program since they scored 21 at St. John's in 2010.
- Sophomore Chandler Bengtson was named Ivy League Player of the Week after hitting .450 with three homers and 12 RBI, including a 3-for-6, seven-RBI effort in the finale.
- First-year Liam McGill earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors after hitting .389 with three runs scored. McGill leads all NCAA freshmen in on-base percentage (.486).
- Junior Randell Kanemaru has his batting average up to .394, good for 28th in the country. He leads the team with 33 RBI has six homers, one behind Bengtson.
- First-year Nick O'Brien is expected to get his third straight mid-week start. He is coming off his first career win after throwing three hitless innings at Fordham.
RUTGERS STATUS
- The Scarlet Knights took two of three at Iowa last weekend. Rutgers was scheduled to host Villanova Tuesday, but were rained out.
- Mike Carter has a team-high .391 batting average and 27 RBI. Jawuan Harris has seven homers and Tom Marcinczyk has six.
- Christian Campbell is slated to get the start on the hill. He is 2-3 with a 4.34 ERA and 26 K's in 37.1 innings.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Rutgers hold an 18-7 record against Columbia. The teams were slated to play at Robertson Field last season, but rain halted the game in the first inning and no make-up was played. In the last official game in 2015, Rutgers claimed a 7-4 win in Piscataway.
UP NEXT...
The Lions and Penn will begin a home-and-home series Friday at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium before taking the set to Philadelphia Saturday. Game one on Friday is set for 1 p.m. Admission is free.
