CHULA VISTA, Calif. – For the second time in three years, the Columbia archery team reigned supreme by capturing Gold Medals in the both recurve and compound divisions at the 2017 National Outdoor Collegiate Archery Championships held on Saturday, May 20.

The Lions defeated rival Texas A&M in the finals round of the recurve to win the program's sixth national championship in the division, behind the stellar performances of Christine Kim, Bianca Gotuaco and Aileen Yu.

The take down of Michigan State in the finals by the compound squad of Sophia Strachan, Judy Zhou and Katherine Alfaro gave the Lions their second-ever national championships in the compound.

"Our hard work this year really paid off," team captain Joy Chang said. "Having our space (in the new Columbia Archery Training Center) this year really helped and we've had some great additions to the team this year with our new freshmen. It's exciting to see them making the world team."

First-year archers Christine Kim and Sophia Strachan will both compete in Taipei this summer for the World University Games team qualifiying second and third recpectively.
